Chris Sackett
co-founded the Ashland Country Dancers in 1978 teaching in a format
developed by Carl Wittman. Since that time he has taught or co-taught
the weekly Scottish and English Country Dance class in Ashland.
In 2008, he and his wife Brooke Friendly
published Impropriety II,
their second volume of country dances.
Training in
country dance Chris has received includes sessions at Pinewoods
and Mendocino dance camps, Fort Warden Scottish dance camps, RSCDS
classes in Vancouver, B.C. and Heather and the Rose dance camps.
He has great appreciation for the training he has received from
Carl Wittman, Bruce Hamilton, Mary Murray, Gene Murrow, Ron Wallace
and Helene Cornelius.
Chris has over
25 years of professional experience in the performing arts. Chris
has designed lighting for the Britt Festivals, Oregon Shakespeare
Festival, Snowmass Festival of American Theater and is resident
lighting designer for the Dance Alliance of Southern Oregon. He
holds a B.F.A. from Southern Oregon University and an M.F.A. in
lighting and sound design from the University of British Columbia.
He has been a theatre faculty member at SOU since 1987 where he
teaches sound classes, lighting design, play reading and supervises
production. He is currently serving as department chair. He has
been theatre consultant for a variety of construction projects including
the remodeling of the 750 seat Craterian Theater in Medford. The
Oregon Arts Commission acknowledged his work with non profit producing
and arts service organizations with the Community Service Award
for 1995.
