ASHLAND, OR. -- May 16, 2005 -- Open Door Networks Inc. announced today that it has halved the price of ShareWay IP Personal Edition, to $39. ShareWay IP is the only way that Apple's new Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) systems can access Personal File Sharing on Mac OS 7, 8 and 9 machines, since Tiger cannot use the legacy AppleTalk protocol to connect to Personal File Sharing or other AppleShare-compatible servers.
Open Door's ShareWay IP products, which run on Mac OS 7.5.5 through 9.2.2, let Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) servers like Personal File Sharing share their files over TCP/IP as well as AppleTalk, thereby making those files available to Tiger systems. Apple licensed a limited version of ShareWay IP and included it with Mac OS 9 to provide that system's Internet file sharing feature. Open Door sells an upgrade to the Mac OS 9 version of ShareWay IP with important added security features, as well as ShareWay IP Personal Edition for machines back to Mac OS 7.5.5 (including 68K machines) which do not otherwise support AFP over TCP/IP. To highlight the suddenly-increased usefulness of ShareWay IP, Open Door has reduced the price of a single license for the Personal Edition from $79 to $39 ($29 educational). Editions for other non-TCP/IP AFP servers, such as Windows NT, are also available.
All the details of the ShareWay IP product line, along with free evaluation versions of ShareWay IP are available from the ShareWay IP Web site at http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/ . The products can be purchased from the site as well.
