How does buying from Opendoor work?

Buying a home is exciting, and the process should be too. That’s why we’re reimagining the experience, simplifying the process, and supporting our customers each step of the way:

Quickly find the needle in the haystack

Whether you’re buying directly from us or with an agent, you can view hundreds of listings on our mobile app or by visiting opendoor.com/homes. All of the relevant home info and market data is at your fingertips. Save or share your favorite listings or select “tour” to get directions to a home you’re interested in.

Now in select markets, you can browse all homes on the market, not just Opendoor homes, through our app.

Visit a home when it’s convenient for you

Not everyone wants to spend their weekend visiting open houses. If you’re visiting an Opendoor home, you can tour our homes on your schedule, any day of the week from 6am to 9pm–no appointment needed. When you arrive at the door, use the Opendoor app to instantly unlock the home and get inside. Alternatively, you can use our text-to-enter service to gain access. If you’re interested in a non-Opendoor home, in select markets, you can book an on-demand tour for any home through the Opendoor app.

Ready to buy? You’ve got options

When you select “Buying options” on any listing, you can choose from buying directly from us, buying with an agent you’re working with, or we can refer you to a top local agent in your area.

In select markets, when you select “Start an offer” for any home on the MLS, you also have the option to be introduced to a buying agent, who will support you as little or as much as you need in the process.

Simple and stress-free

Once you’ve found a home you love, you can submit an offer online, directly in the app, or by email to homes@opendoor.com. If you have an agent, they can submit an offer on your behalf. We typically respond to offers within 48 hours. Once you sign your purchase contract, you’ll schedule a free Home Condition Assessment.

At this point, your lender will likely require a home appraisal to verify the value of the home—this is standard. After your financing is secured, you’ll choose your closing date and move-in date. This is typically 20-30 days from the time you sign the contract. We hand you the keys when you’re ready.
