Summary

We founded Opendoor to empower people with a more simple and certain way to buy and sell a home. Delivering that delightful experience to our customers has required years of work to completely reimagine the traditional transaction process, and we’ve done so while navigating one of the most regulated and entrenched sectors of the U.S. economy. We intend on being able to reach everyone across the U.S. with our products and services, and, as we head into this next chapter of growth, it’s imperative that we have leaders who can help us navigate it.

I’m excited to welcome the newest member of our executive team and our new Chief Legal Officer, Sydney Schaub. As our Chief Legal Officer, Sydney is a proven, seasoned executive who has not only excelled in the legal field but has been instrumental in making companies that are disrupting old ways of doing business into household names. And as a leader at Opendoor, she exemplifies the qualities we seek in our team members: mission-driven, principled and customer-obsessed.

In joining Opendoor, Sydney continues to support a high-growth company navigating a complex industry landscape. From leading teams through complicated regulatory and compliance issues to setting new standards for the technology and financial sectors worldwide, Sydney’s experience is diverse and well-suited for Opendoor. Most recently, she was the Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Gemini, a leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange and custodian. Prior to Gemini, Sydney led the legal and corporate development functions at Rent the Runway, which is disrupting the $1.7 trillion global fashion industry.

In line with working for high-profile innovative technology companies, Sydney was also Associate General Counsel for Square where she was the head of legal teams focused on corporate securities, M&A, strategic partnerships, payments regulatory matters, and international expansion. And one of the professional accomplishments she is most proud of is serving as a founding member of TechGC, a community for legal executives to share knowledge and best practices and support each other through their lives and careers.

Sydney’s experience and leadership of our legal organization will be vital to Opendoor’s success as we expand into new markets and continue to modernize the consumer real estate transaction.

Welcome home, Sydney!
